Researchers in the UK recently discovered that a great chemist, a pioneer in discovering elements for the periodic table, was also privately a poet. His notebooks in which he recorded his scientific experiments were also filled with poetry he had written himself.
What you can take away from this, is that to be a good scientist, and basically to be a good anything, you need to be creative, too. As a poet, I notice that creating new work goes better when I am in a creative mood. Sometimes, you need a little help to get started. That is what these Sunday creativity prompts are about. On Sundays, I will challenge you to do something creative, in the hope it helps to get your creative energy flowing, which in turn should help you in what you do.
Creating through curating
Music always helps me when I write. The songs I love to sing along to get me in a good mood, some electronic dance music helps me to get my blood flowing so I can get in the zone to write, and in other cases, music builds a wall around me so I can close myself off from the world and create.
Your creative prompt this Sunday: curate a 5-song playlist that helps you create. Of course, you can go beyond 5, but 5 is a great start.
Share your lists in the comments.
Here is mine:
Great prompt, Arjan. I can affect the mood of a painting or written piece simply by changing the music in my studio. Music is magic in that way. Luckily, my husband and partner is an avid playlist maker, so my life is filled with music created over a span of many decades. It is, literally, delightful.
