The tiled floor,
the ornamental vases.
Palm trees, fountains and kind-hearted staff.
Details designed so guests
feel welcome.
Luxury goes hand in hand with comfort. When we travel, we like to be comfortable. A little bit more leg space in the plane is nice. A spacious, well equipped and clean lodging also. I find it hard to define what luxury precisely is, but what I do know, is that it lies in the details. Details that are carefully arranged, just to make you feel welcome. Some of these details can be a made bed, a beautiful vase in the lobby, a nice view from your room. But the most important detail of them all, is how staff are welcoming you into their house. Without the kindness of people, luxury is meaningless. To me. And when the people who work in a hotel clearly enjoy the friendship of our children, there’s nothing more luxurious than that.
What does luxury mean to you?
The photo above was taken in the Bab al Qasr hotel in Abu Dhabi. I can recommend it.

Something to listen to
As I am working on next episodes of my podcast, you might want to listen to an older one. In this one I spoke with a wonderful poet, who is also making sure others get there stage to shine on. Listen to Chapter 6:
This is a rather long episode of a podcast. In it, two poets who are creating NFTs are discussing on how to deliver poetry to listeners. It’s an interesting conversation. Check it out here:
And of course, there is our eclectic playlist for May, one that helps you to take a break and refocus. Or just to create a moment (or two) of enjoyment:
Poetry elsewhere
Art collaborations can be wonderful. Especially when it’s cross-discipline. The NFT world is an excellent place to find such collabs, like this one where a visual artist and a poet worked together to create The Internal Dialogue.
The world is filled with places that inspire. As long as you look at these places with an open mind and an open heart. One such place is Suomenlinna (Finland’s Fortress) as when seen through the eyes of Gerry Stewart in Postcard Window at Suomenlinna.
In a recent podcast episode, I spoke to Jazz, a poet who uses the street as her canvas, and Instagram to share about it. Her most recent share there is a particularly sweet one. If you can read in Dutch, she’s certainly worth following.
lovely newsletter here :) informative and enchanting
