From lost town

This Sunday is Europe Day. On 9 May 1950, French foreign minister Robert Schuman set out a vision for a united Europe, starting with the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community. Since that day, we have come a long way. Now, I can call myself not only a Dutch citizen but also a citizen of the European Union, with the rights and responsibilities that come with that.
The poetry collection I published earlier this year, Thinking of Europe, is a celebration of the European Union, the European Dream, and the wider continent. It celebrates the diverse beauty and our shared culture. The poem above mentions some of the places the poetry collection takes you to, but also the Rose of Turaida. It’s a dramatic love story from Latvia. In the picture, you can see the monument in her honour located in Turaida.
Now, it's your turn. Share about one of your favorite European places. With a poem, a photo, a short story. Share the link in the comments below, or tag this publication on twitter or instagram (@trpplffct). And I recommend also using the hashtag #EuropeDayWalks, an initiative by the European Cultural Foundation.
The poem on top is a tritriplicata, a poetic form I created. If you want to know more about it, click here to find answers to some of the questions you might have.
Show your appreciation for poetry. Share this edition of the Tripple Effect newsletter, or fuel upcoming issues with a cup of coffee.
Poetry Elsewhere
This time two poems I found on Instagram for you to check out. One is a dreamy poem of love and travel, the other a haiku about colours.
Enjoy.
