Forty-nine,
one time seven past the
meaning of life, which still eludes me.
Or better yet: it keeps
evolving.
Birthdays. Every year they return. A celebration of life, a reminder of the inevitability of ageing, a day just like another random day. However you look at it, as long as you live, you can’t escape them. And I wouldn’t even want to. This week I had another one of those. My forty-ninth. Even after so many revolutions around the sun, I’m still learning every day about what life really means. To me, at least. One of the many beautiful things in life, and I hope that I keep learning for as long I am seeing new birthdays. Of course, I wish that for you, too.
Thanks for reading.

Poetry Elsewhere
Making the ordinary extraordinary. I love it when artists do that. It helps us to see the beauty in everyday life. It’s there if you just care to look. Even in your grocery list (and visit to the supermarket), like Sherman Alexie found in this poem, or very short story: Grocery list.
One of the many things poets can do is show you a different perspective on a familiar story. Even in very short poems. The poet behind @WeekdayPoems on Twitter shows you how with this untitled poem.
That poetry can also be important in guiding us through the world and understanding it, is proved by Larissa and Kelly from Poetry Trapper Keeper. This genius poem explores the emergence of new norms: I can interpret text, u know?
