It’s sixteen-four again:
Foursquare Day.
Yeah. I’m the mayor. Of this park, this town, and several other places spread over several countries. Not the kind that has a wonderful livery collar, but the kind that has obsessively checked-in using Foursquare. Actually, since a couple of years that is Swarm, but I still think of it as Foursquare. The checking-in has become sort of an addiction. It started out quite fun. Collecting badges, showing the cool places in town to your friends, leaving tips for strangers. A crowd-sourced city guide. A cool one, too. But as so many cool digital tools, it’s been pushed to the fringes of the market by Google. The Maps tool of that behemoth is probably the largest and most accurate crowd-sourced location guide on the planet. I play that game, too. The gamification behind the local guide levels works like a charm, and so far I’ve reached level 7.
Part addiction, part sharing knowledge and experience publicly for the benefit of strangers, today is a good day to celebrate travel and sharing the beauty of our world.
Happy Foursquare Day!
PS: the photo is taken in one of the places I am mayor of, and is also known as a narcissus poeticus.

And now it’s time for a cup of tea. I take mine without milk or sugar, but with this lovely sonnet by A. Christine Myers: Sonnet to a Cup of Tea.
The poems of Chiara Maxia on Instagram always trigger thoughts and ideas. I really liked this one: Kosmonaut.
