As mentioned in the previous edition of this newsletter, Poets On Medium had a poetry party to inspire hope, positive thinking and dreaming after to many, the first half of 2020 was such a horrible experience. As I am a poet who publishes on Medium, I’m obviously part of that party. One of the poems I shared in Star Week, is about star constellations and imagination. It is a celebration of the imagination my kids have. One night, I was looking at the stars with my son. I pointed Ursa Major out to him. It’s basically the only one I know. Immediately he asked me if we could also make our own, and started finding his own constellations in the night sky. I love that limitless imagination. It inspired this poem:
I can spot
Ursa Major, and show
my son. Proudly he sees it. Then makes,
with imagination,
new star signs.
Creativity Starter
Now, if you are ever stuck in your creativity, or staring at that blank page or screen and the words or art won’t flow, look up. Find stars and create your own star signs. Your art will flow freely after that.
The Journey to Parenthood
Becoming a parent means you set out on a magical journey. I asked poet Brian Kurian about his journey, after his poetry brought me back 7 years to when our first one was developing from a tiny speck on a black-and-white image into a tiny little beautiful baby boy. In Chapter 7 of the Tripple Effect you can hear how Brian experiences his adventure.
Ban Single-Use Plastics
As a parent, single-use plastics are, as we say in The Netherlands, a thorn in my eye. We stopped buying bottled water, and use our own bottles. Some of them are from Dutch B.Corp Dopper. They have launched a campaign to ban single-use plastics. You can ride the wave with them, and me, by signing the pledge. Watch the video below. Be a drop that turns into a ripple and then a wave. I did.
This is not an advertisement for Dopper. They did not pay me. I simply like their initiative and find it worth sharing.
If you like this newsletter, by me a coffee. And if you really like it, share it.
