The changing
season desperately
shows us that life is not black and white:
it is a multitude
of colours.
Autumn is, at least here in the Northern Hemisphere, a season of colours. It’s the season in which leaves change from green into beautiful browns, golds, reds and yellows. It is the season that shows that there are as many colours in our world as you can imagine. It is the season that proves the world is not black and white.
This is precisely what I hope to achieve with my poetry: to show you colours. To show you the world does not exist of only black and white. That it’s not about trying to figure out to which other group a stranger belongs, but to go and find out what colour actually connects you. And once you find that connection, you will see that it is not us against them, but, simply, us.
How are you enjoying the season of colours?
Something to listen to
Okay, so, this is not poetry. Or about poetry. But it is about art. And it is a good reflection of why I think art, in my case poetry, is so important. I really enjoyed listening to this talk, I hope you do, too:
A year ago this month, I started creating playlists for this newsletter. To celebrate that, I share with you that first #trpplffct playlist. Enjoy listening (again)
Poetry elsewhere
Maria Verde is a poet for whom her work is not just art, but also a form of healing. And this is the type of work that often helps so many others. Just one example is this untitled poem. But there’s so much more she has created, and that you can collect.
Current events can be a good inspiration for beautiful poetry. Especially when these events evoke strong emotions. Like a hurricane making landfall and leaving behind a trail of destruction. Bob Metivier beautifully captured being in the midst of it all in this poem In the Eye of the Storm:
For some, their birthday is a good moment for reflection. A moment to think about what your thoughts are about, for example, the culture you live in, and how some elements of that affect your happiness. Kristen Ryberg did so in this wonderful poem The Transfiguration of Facebook. And of course a happy belated birthday to Kristen.
Autumn is such a wonderful season; thank you for a lovely reminder of colors and happy times :)
Beautiful reminder, love this.
Whenever I see autumn leaves, especially in the beginning when colours are just starting to shift, I’m reminded that everything in life is constantly changing. If nature can embody it so well, than so can we 🏕️
