#floralweek

For the first 7 days of July, Poets On Medium celebrated Floral Week, an initiative by poet Tapan Avasthi “to cultivate the spirit of optimism”. You may have read about it in the previous edition of this newsletter. The week saw some wonderful poetry, which I’m sure you can appreciate. In the picture above is my poem to close off the week. If you like it, feel free to share it with your friends. If you’re interested in the poems, visit the tag-page for Floral Week on Medium. You can read a couple for free before you have to join as a member.
And now, thanks to poet Jenny Justice, we are keeping the party going. I do feel a bit like having partied all night and needing a rest, but not able to resist the temptation. We moved into #starweek, and continue to inspire hope and dreaming. Here’s my second contribution. Inspired by stars, Star Wars and my lucky t-shirt.
An epic
battle between rebels
and an empire - but the call to
stop wars on my shirt? Not
a typo!

Did you know we have a flag for our planet? No, I’m not speaking of the UN flag. That beautiful blue banner is nice enough. I like it. But there is a political element to it that can rub people the wrong way. No, I recently learned we have a flag for our planet. Several, if Wikipedia is to be believed (and I have no doubt in this case that we should). But the one I like best is called The International Flag of Planet Earth. It’s designed to represent the people of our planet in, well, interplanetary relations, and to be a unifying banner showing our connectedness. I like the idea, and I might want to go and get me one.
Here’s the link to the website of The International Flag of Planet Earth:

I learned about that flag in this inspiring and entertaining talk:
