Words of peace
on folded paper piece
will this flock of cranes amplify the
call the world needs to hear:
no more wars!
Earlier this summer, The Elders launched the #PeaceCrane2020 campaign. Using the origami crane as a symbol of peace, the campaign commemorates the dropping of the nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki 75 years ago this year and calls for a world without nuclear weapons. Wouldn’t that be nice? Joining in the campaign, I wrote the poem above and folded the crane in the photo. With the International Day of Peace coming up this Monday, I thought this was a nice poem to share this Friday. It’s my daughter, representing our future generations, who holds the crane in the photo.
This is the Poetry Piątek number 5. Piątek is Polish for Friday. So, Poetry Piątek means Poetry Friday. Please be peaceful. Not just this weekend. Always.
