Road trips are
collections of dreary
night drives mixed with magical views of
rolling sun-kissed landscapes
gliding by.
Going places. I like it. We like it. Going back to The Netherlands means long drives. Well, drives of around 500 km. The route takes us through beautiful rolling landscapes. I have travelled this road often, but it never bores. Only at night. When it’s dark and there’s not much to see, because my beloved landscapes are hidden in the night. Until you come close to a town or city, and street lights create a magical atmosphere. Even, or maybe especially, in industrial places like the port of Rotterdam, the largest port area in Europe, as you can see in the photo above.
Where will your next road trip take you? I hope this year will bring you many magical journeys.
PS: This really is issue #73. In the mail that went out last week, I made a small mistake, so those of you who receive this in their inbox may have thought that was issue #73. It wasn’t. It was issue #72. This is issue #73.
Something to listen to
Yes! Season two of our poetry podcast has started. So, if you want something to listen to, listen to that first. You can revisit the post of earlier this week, with show notes and all, or just click play on the embedded version below:
This week’s poem is also available as reading, of course:
And don’t forget there’s the January playlist and eclectic selection that makes me want to dance. I hope you get the same vibe from it:
Poetry elsewhere
To me, this poem ends well, but I can imagine others reading a not so good end in it. I believe the strength of poetry lies there, that you can read into it what your life experience delivers. Anyway, read this wonderful poem Adrenaline.
Travelling can seem restless for some, but to others, the turbulence of being on the move is just what they need. Love can be that way, too. And life. Like in this well-written poem Storm Chaser.
As you can imagine, I have a soft spot for short poems. Also for the sea. So when they mix… Read this one from Frank Z.
