Let's start this
journey on the back of
an elephant, round and round we go.
Next, saddle up and ride
the white horse.We like cars
too, and helicopters.
Motorbikes and fire trucks go round
with us on board. But then:
the white horse.
We can't get
enough of this, one more
please, mom and dad! A rocket, spaceship,
carriage, and then, of course,
the white horse.
The carousel, or merry-go-round. A favourite of the kids. Even for the bigger one. Horses are the best seats, but things that move also delight. If they see one, they have to get on. In the photo above, you see horses of the carousel in the Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris. Even though likely renovated a couple of times, it’s the same as the one Rilke wrote about in that poem I shared earlier. The love my children have for these machines, and that poem by Rilke, inspired the poem above.
Poetry Elsewhere
Okay, strictly speaking, this is not poetry. But the journey these two guys were on is not only epic, it’s also poetic. More importantly, it shows the value of empathy. Go watch it in your own language on Netflix.
