Celebrate,
why don't we, the things that
make you another person than me.
Our differences the
spice of life.
This is the thirteenth Poetry Piątek. On Friday the 13th. Are you superstitious about this date, or the number 13? And do you know how this day became an unlucky day for so many? It all has to do with the downfall of the Templars. At least, that is one story. A fitting one for this Friday’s poem. Whether it was politics, power, or religious convictions, the arrest of Knigths Templar on Friday 13 October 1307 came from a focus on differences. This made the Knights Templar and King Philip IV of France enemies. On a different scale, and maybe in some cases even on the same scale and more, this still happens today. People focus on what makes the other different, and therefore an adversary, a threat. An enemy. That is sad. What if we were all the same. No differences anymore. Life would be extremely boring. To me, differences are what make life worth living. Differences, the difference between you and me, between us and them, are the spice of life. A spice worth celebrating.
What makes you different?
It’s funny you should ask that question, Arjan, because the same question was asked of me in a book I’m reading - it’s more a work book kind of thing but it really got me thinking! Serendipity!
